As someone noted, this blog and my personal blog have been down for a couple of days. No terrorist attack, no atomic bomb, just a new plugin (Simple Tags) who decided to fight against an other plugin (Gengo) previously installed.

Unfortunately I took a lot of time to figure out the problem, mainly because I’m not the expert of WordPress (now I am), and I got the answer from the Gengo forum, and from another unlucky guy who faced this issue just a couple of weeks before me. I’m not going to apply his solution now because I’m too happy to see everything working again.

And I’m also happy I learnt something about the Gengo plugin. E.g. Gengo uses the following tables in the WordPress database: wp_languages, wp_post2lang, wp_summaries, wp_term2syn, wp_synblocks.

And also that if you re-import your posts and comments using the WordPress XML file, WordPress will not reinsert the posts with the same number and as a result it will be in a mess for the translations.

Update

It works. Now this blog is running both Gengo and Simple Tags.

Il pranzo è quasi servito

Internet MuMic Theme ScreenshotSiccome ritengo questo tema sia diventato abbastanza usabile, ho pensato di pubblicarlo: ora il tema (Internet MuMic) si può scaricare dalla pagina (in inglese) all’uopo predisposta che contiene anche un changelog. Anche perché ogni tanto ci faccio una modifica e mi butta di fare un microrilascio.

init 1

init 1Si comincia. O meglio, si ricomincia. Forse è meglio fare un riassunto delle puntate precedenti.

In principio era un dominio ma era un host Windows senza database e non riuscivo a metterci un blog decente. Allora mi sono rivolto a Blogspot e ho scritto per parecchio tempo, ma soprattutto fatti miei e siccome non volevo annoiare i miei amici parlavo, o meglio, scrivevo poco di tecnologia e Linux.
Ora c’è sempre un dominio (lo so, sono narcisista) ma è un host Linux (anch’io ho una dignità) e un database, così ci posso mettere WordPress. Sia ben chiaro: Blogspot è stata una bella esperienza ma l’indipendenza ha ben altro sapore.

In questo blog scriverò soprattutto di Linux, software a codice aperto – opensource, web e nuove tecnologie in generale. Per ora si parte, ma senza pretese, proprio per questo inizio con un init 1.
